Words from us…
Wayne’s World
Glucosamine and chondroitin benefit arthritic hands as
well as knees. They help to maintain the structure and function of your
cartilage, which is found between your bones and keeps them from rubbing
together as your joints flex. These compounds actually change the joint
structure in ways that may improve joint function for a long time. Remember to
purchase time-tested quality sources of glucosamine and chondroitin sold at
Stay Healthy!. and that early
intervention is desirable for long-term success. In order to maintain optimal
joint health as we age, it’s important to sustain healthy weight and to exercise
regularly. Eat a diet rich in antioxidants and healthy omega-3 fats. Daily use
of supplements containing stabilized fish oil, ginger, nettle and MSM not only
improve the health of many body functions, but aid connective tissue and
joints. At Stay Healthy!,
our staff can assist you with literature and information and proven supplements
backed by clinical studies. Whether you choose capsules, tablets, liquids or
powders as your arthritic aids, remember to be consistent taking them and to
select quality products to achieve significant results. Call us at 877-2494 or
visit us on-line at stayhealthy.info or at 840 South Rancho Drive in the Smith’s
shopping center. We are open Monday through Saturday.

Jenny's Jive:
Eat more sulfur rich foods, such as asparagus, eggs, garlic & onions. Sulfur is
needed for the repair & rebuilding of bone, cartilage & connective tissue. It
also aids in the absorption of calcium. Eat fresh pineapples frequently.
Bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapples, is excellent for reducing
inflammation. However the pineapple must be fresh, as freezing may damage the
enzymes. Hot baths may provide some pain relief. Raw lemon rubs & hot caster oil
packs are beneficial. In the morning, take a hot shower or bath to relieve
morning stiffness. Spend time outdoors for fresh air & sunshine! Exposure to the
sun promotes the production of D3, which is needed for proper bone formation.
Get regular moderate exercise, for exercise is essential for reducing pain.
Regular activity doesn't put stress on affected joints, but rather strengthens
surrounding bones, muscles, & ligaments that are valuable for many types of
arthritis. Bike riding, walking, & water exercises are a few examples. Maintain
a good attitude. Ailments in life don't hurt as much when one maintains a
positive attitude.
Jeff's Positive Vibrations:
Arthritis is
the inflammation of one or more joints. It is characterized by pain and
stiffness (especially in the morning or after exercise), swelling, deformity
and/or a diminished range of motion. Bone growths or spurs may develop in the
affected joints, increasing pain and decreasing mobility. There may be audible
cracks or grating noises when the joints move. There are many forms of arthritis
such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and related conditions, including
fibromyalgia, gout, lupus, Lyme disease, bursitis, etc. 55 million Americans
suffer from this ailment which is a primary source of disability in the
United States
today. Supplements and herbs that will help with the
inflammation and reduce the pain are bromelain, an enzyme that reduces
inflammation when taken between meals, and glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate
to strengthen the tendons, ligaments and joints. MSM is a sulfur compound needed
for reducing swelling and helps with joint and tissue repair. Essential fatty
acids help to increase the production and activity of anti-inflammatory
substances in the body. Silica supplies silicon important for the formation of
healthy bones. Kelp and alfalfa supplies a rich source of minerals needed for
good skeletal health. Extra enzymes in the diet can also dramatically improve
anti-inflammatory effects in the body. Turmeric contains curcumin which has very
good anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Also ginger and feverfew
are good for pain and soreness. Noni has been used for 2000 years for pain,
arthritis and other health problems. Nettle is used for its anti-inflammatory
properties. Come on in to

Speaking Words of Wisdom
Arthritis can affect anyone at
different times in their life. What
exercises, lifestyle support and nutrition do you need to help prevent or rid
yourself of arthritis? The standard approach is glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM,
Vit C (Amla), and trace minerals. Enzymes (systemic) can also be effective if
you have an old injury with scar tissue or lots of inflammation. A more thorough
approach would include herbs to reduce inflammation, move the blood and move the
chi, herbs like ginger, turmeric, licorice root (Chinese), and astragalus.
It takes more than just nutrition to heal and incorporate the healing into a
life long practice. The fundamentals include exercise and energy work (Chi-Kung)
to facilitate the flow of blood and energy through the joints of the body. A
complete body-mind-spirit healing would cover these and include a
mental/emotional affirmation to program the body’s inherit homeostasis (“My body
functions smoothly and my energy flows naturally. I release the past trauma and
instill in my spirit vibrant health”). Chi-Kung stimulates the acupressure
points to release energy blocks and incorporates specific body movements to send
energy and blood to the affected area. Rotating the body is very helpful. Try to
do small circles in a full range of motion in the affected joint area, for this
builds the synovial fluid, sending nutrients to the area and increasing
flexibility and allowing energy to flow freely through the meridian systems.
Rubbing the hands together and then rubbing the infected area can be helpful.
Look in books or ask me where some of the major acupressure points to stimulate
can be found on the body. Stretching everyday, eating a healthy diet and living
in accordance with nature is still the best way to PREVENT arthritis and all dis-ease.

Nik Notes:
Arthritis can make even the most common tasks difficult, but there are still
activities that you can do that have no impact on your joints. I recommend
painting, due in part to my own interests in the hobby, to anyone looking for
productive ways to pass the time. Your only limitation may come in the process
of doing very fine or small work. To make a small brush easier to hold try using
a foam pencil grip, for it will make holding the brush much easier. Try doing
abstract exercises so you won’t have as many limitations to actual forms. Many
great artists have had some form of arthritis, including the French
Impressionist, Renoir.
