Stay Healthy!
now carries a new category of nutritional supplements that is neither vitamin,
mineral, nor herbal. These are mycological products-medicinal mushrooms.
Medicinal mushrooms are considered part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) &
Japanese herbology, but they are not herbs but fungi, a biological kingdom unto
themselves. Just about 100,000 different types of fungi exist and in this group
are around 38,000 species of mushrooms, about 500 of which are thought to
possess medicinal properties. Among the better-known mushrooms used throughout
Asia for millennia are maitake, reishi, &
shitake. Practitioners are using medicinal mushrooms to treat a variety of
clinical conditions which include heart disease, hypertension, elevated
triglyceride levels, cancer, & depressed immunity. Studies have confirmed that
most of the immune activation provided by medicinal mushrooms is attributed to
beta glucan, a polysaccharide. Beta glucan is a complex carbohydrate composed of
glucose molecules strung together. What is most interesting is that receptors
for beta glucans are found on macrophages which are large white blood cells that
destroy harmful microorganisms & tumor cells! Reishi is considered to promote
longevity & treat a wide range of disorders. Shitake is used as both food &
medicine, & recent research seems to confirm maitake’s ability to stimulate
immunity. Of course, these are but a few “mycological” superstars. I myself love
using New Chapter’s “Breathe”, a mushroom mycelium to support lungs for
stamina & vigor. Call us today at 877-2494 & visit
Stay Healthy! soon to learn more about the protective & healing
intelligence of these wonderful, medicinal mushrooms.
Thank you so much for your patronage. Stay Healthy!
Jenny's Jive:
Mushrooms
have been used throughout the world for healing purposes for centuries.
The first antibiotics were
extracted from fungi. Penicillin, derived from molds, was hailed as a wonder
drug for infections and communicable diseases. Mushrooms are valuable health
food, low in calories, high in vegetable proteins, iron, zinc, fiber, essential
amino acids, vitamins & minerals. Mushrooms also have a long history of use in
Traditional Chinese Medicine. Their legendary effects on promoting
good health and vitality as well as
increasing the body's adaptive abilities have been supported by recent studies.
These studies suggest that mushrooms are
probiotic, helping our body strengthen itself and fight off illness by
maintaining physiological homeostasis and restoring our body’s balance and
natural resistance to disease. For example, the three most popular mushrooms,
reishi, cordyceps, and maitake, are good for many common health issues (high
blood pressure, immune weakness, & respiratory problems). I have not even begun
to scratch the surface of mushroom mechanics. For more mushroom information

studies. At

Speaking Words of Wisdom
Mushrooms and other fungi have
been called "the third kingdom." Being neither plant nor animal, they are a
world unto themselves. Mushrooms are the fruiting body of a fine root-like
network called mycelium. There are about 38,000 known species of mushrooms
and about 700 of these have been determined to be edible, and
greater than 500 are estimated to have medicinal value. In this regard the
reishi, shiitake, maitake, cordyceps and coriolus mushrooms are of particular
interest. These mushrooms produce a variety of complex compounds such as
betaglucans from which most of the health benefits are believed to be derived.
The use of mushrooms in food and in medicine dates back over 5000 years.
Mushrooms are in every culture’s ancient lore of medicinal and mystical
attributes. While plants absorb carbon dioxide and liberate oxygen, mushrooms
mimic human respiration by capturing oxygen and exhaling carbon
dioxide. Mushrooms have similar immune systems to our own, so they provide a
host of benefits that other plants just can’t match. In Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM) they are considered superior over the most tonic herbs. Most
mushrooms at one time were allowed only for the royal families, and to be caught
picking them was punished by chopping off your head. As you can see certain
mushrooms have been held in high regard for thousands of years, and not until
recent years has there been an emergence in the scientific studies with
mainstream medicine. From cancer to immune system support, mushrooms are
unmatched for their outstanding benefits.

Nik Notes: I
am a lucky boy. Thanks to my job and access to immune system boosters, I am
rarely sick. I wish I could say never but unfortunately sometimes something
will sneak up on me and make me feel lousy. In this situation I prefer to take
a supplement that utilizes mushrooms to bring me back to normal. There are
several products that combine traditional immune boosters with mushrooms. One
product that I have experience with is called “Under the Weather” by Solaray.
I feel that this formula is the best for me and my immune system. No product
can guarantee results, especially for colds and flu, but mushrooms are as close
as I can come to a sure thing.
