Quercetin Shows Potential for
Prostate Cancer Treatment
In the March issue of Carcinogenesis,
researchers noted that the flavonoid quercetin, found in items such as onions,
apples, tea and supplements, may prevent and even treat prostate cancer by
inhibiting the prostate-specific androgen receptor, which is involved in the
development and progression of prostate cancer.

Words from us…
Wayne’s World
June is upon us and so are the
temperatures in our valley. We have selected enzymes, those sustainers of life,
as our theme this month. As you know, enzymes are basic to the process of
digestion, as well as to nutritional absorption, tissue repair, immune system
function, and much more. Research has already indicated that enzymes slow the
aging process. Significant depletion of these vital enzymes in our bodies can
have a detrimental impact on our well being. Therefore, maintaining the right
enzyme levels is essential for staying healthy. Our staff at Stay Healthy! can
help you understand and use the power of enzymes to maximize your health and
combat a host of common disorders. We have many excellent, well-written books on
enzymes and a fine array of the best enzyme supplements available in the natural
foods arena. Enzyme therapy is safe and effective. Call us today and learn more!
Thank you so much for your patronage. Stay Healthy!
The Evelyn Files…
What are Enzymes? According to
Dr. Anthony J. Cichoke they are "…protein-based substances found in every cell
of every living plant and animal, including the human body." (The Complete
Book of Enzyme Therapy p.1). Where do we get enzymes? We are born with a
store of them. We get enzymes from raw foods, others are manufactured in our
bodies by various organs, and in supplemental form available at
Stay Healthy!
What are their functions? Humbert Santillo tells us in his book Food Enzymes
(p.5) that enzymes digest food, build muscles, nerves, blood, glands and bones.
They also eliminate waste and attack poisons to mention just a few of their
amazing capacities.
Most people think of enzymes for digestion, but as you know, there is much more
to them than meets the eye. I don’t know of anyone who takes too many enzymes.
They are THE most important food supplement you’ll ever take. I like Udo’s
and Enzymedica enzymes myself. May I suggest you stop by our store and
pick up an "Enzyme Deficiency Test" so you can determine your enzyme body type.
Good health to you always. Evelyn J

answers questions:
Q: I get a lot of bloating after meals. Do you have any
suggestions?
A: Bloating is often a sign of yeast growth in the
stomach. Yeast does not survive in the normally acid environment of the stomach,
but as we age our acid levels naturally decline in our stomachs allowing yeast
to grow. When we eat foods containing sugar molecules, the sugars are fermented
creating the gas that bloats you. This can also cause heartburn when the gas
escapes up the esophagus carrying with it traces of stomach acid. Using antacids
and acid blockers for the heartburn will actually increase the risk for bloating
and heartburn by further reducing the acidity of the stomach, which in turn
increases the growth of yeast. So as contradictory as it sounds, increasing
stomach acid is generally one of the best ways to treat digestive problems,
including heartburn. There are several methods by which this can be done. One of
the easiest ways is with what is called digestive bitters. Bitters are very
bitter herbs. When they come in to contact with the bitter receptors of the
tongue the vagus nerve is stimulated, which in turn increases digestive
secretions including stomach acid, pancreatic enzymes, and bile secretions. I
like to make my own bitters by mixing Schisandra berries with Juniper berries
and Artichoke leaf. All three herbs stimulate digestive secretions. In addition
the Juniper Berries help the pancreas work better and kills yeast, the Artichoke
leaf supports the liver, and the Schisandra supports the adrenals and the
kidneys.
Also remember to eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly to help prevent
swallowing too much air. Swallowing air can also lead to bloating because body
heat causes the swallowed air to expand in the stomach. –James Sloane
J.C. Speaking Words of
Wisdom
Eating fresh organic dark leafy
greens, fruits and vegetables is not only a great way to stay healthy, but it
also gives you a better outlook on life. Once you have become accustomed to
eating more raw whole foods you will notice a big change in your thinking
habits. Light easy foods are keys to a positive outlook in life, for they fill
our spirit bodies with sun energy. Sun energy is our first source of energy and
the most important. Every thing on this great earth must have sun to thrive and
grow, including us.
Quick Meditation: Try sitting or standing
for a few minutes in the sun, see yourself reaching out and gathering light
energy, breathe deep, and visualize your spirit body filling up with this light.
Do it for 3 to 5 minutes for an energy pick up any time.
Knowledge applied is wisdom…
