Vitamin C
(L-ascorbic acid) is one of the body's primary protectors from reactive oxygen
damage. Unfortunately, vitamin C is depleted during UV injury or exposure to the
sun. Because the body control mechanisms limit the amount of ingested vitamin C
available to skin, topical antioxidant therapy becomes an attractive way to
target vitamin C directly into the skin.

Words from us…
Wayne’s World
Summer is here, and time to
prepare for outdoor activities.
This means exposure to Ultraviolet (UV) radiation requiring protection to
avoid nasty sunburns, dry skin, and the possibility of developing skin cancer.
Stay Healthy! carries many natural products companies that offer a broad
range of sun care products.
Since sunscreens must nourish the skin, look for those containing green
tea, lavender, chamomile and ginkgo biloba.
Skin must have the proper moisture and antioxidants, which are the answer
to damage caused by the sun.
Use antioxidants internally and externally to help maintain skin
structure, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, shield the skin from UV rays, and
promote collagen production.
Use vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, lycopene and grape seed extract.
Use herbs in formulas containing calendula, lavender, sesame, geranium,
chamomile, sandalwood in sprays or forms designed to relieve sunburns, prevent
peeling, and moisturize the skin.
Tanning products should contain natural fruit acids to help replenish and
revitalize the skin, as well as antioxidant protection with aloe vera and again,
UV protection. Ask
for our newest skin protection products recently purchased at the industry
annual trade convention our entire staff attended.
Also greet two new members of our fine, knowledgeable staff, Gwen and
Sheri. Remember sun
protection in Las Vegas is an important all year-round concern.

Gwen's Pet Tips:
Is your loyal companion scratching all the time? Try
flax seed oil added to the food for most dogs love the taste! If they already
have infected areas, Squalene (Shark oil) or aloe and colloidal silver salve may
be very helpful for healing. Brush your dog daily for circulation, and try some
Tea Tree oil (a few drops) in a spray bottle of water for fleas and bugs. When
the skin becomes greasy or dirty, it’s time for a bath. Once a week or as often
as you can, try an apple cider vinegar bath for detoxification, add 2 cups to a
tub of water. Soak your pet for 20 minutes or so, as much as your pet will
allow. Happy health to you and your furry friend!
Jenny's Jive: The
skin is important. It is the largest organ in the human body. It works in
conjunction with the bones to hold our bodies together. Like all things,
without care it deteriorates. Many elements plague the life of our skin. Age
spots, Rosacea, boils, bruising, skin cancer, scabies;- all of these are skin
conditions that can be helped with preventative care. One element that taunts
us is the sun. It is proven that the sun has adverse affects on our skin, if not
taken into consideration. Sun block is one of the simple things we can do daily
as preventative care. Selenium is a powerful free radical scavenger that
protects against UV damage. There are many things we can take to prevent skin
disease & disorder. Dimethylglycine (DMG) & co enzyme Q10 improves cellular
oxygenation. Essential fatty acids are good to take for cellular protection.
Vitamin C with bioflavonoids is a powerful anti- cancer agent that helps boost
immunity. And don’t forget, the ever popular Vitamin E, taken internally, not
only helps promote healing & tissue repair, but protects against damage from UV
rays. Applied topically, it soothes & softens the skin. Like most topics that
deal with the body, diet is one of the major changes one can do to promote
better skin health. A diet low in fat & rich in antioxidants such as carrots,
sweet potatoes, & brussel sprouts would be ideal. Avoid exposure to halogen
lighting at close range as well as tanning salons. They both emit UV rays.
There are so many more things one can do to maintain good healthy skin. For more

Speaking Words of Wisdom
Skin health has
alot to do with internal health. It’s not so much the UV rays from the sun but
what you put in your body that shows the health and glow of your skin. Skin ages
more when the body is lacking key nutrients, like MSM, silica, vit C, essential
fats (Omega 3, 6, and 9) etc. One can also add antioxidants like vit E and
selenium or more powerful ones like grapeseed extract, concentrated blueberries,
and herbs like turmeric and green tea for further protection. Water is the
biggest factor in your skins appearance for just a slight amount of dehydration
can show signs through the skin. To know how much water you should drink, cut
your total body weight in half and that’s how many ounces you need, (example if
you weigh 100 pounds you should drink 50 ounces daily). Beware of water in the
shower! Just one shower in tap water is equal to drinking it all day! Do you
drink tap water? You better look into a good shower filter to pull out chlorine
and other hard minerals or your health and skin will pay the price. Skin
brushing is one of the best things you can do to exfoliate off dead skin layers
and refresh the appearance of the skin. Find a good skin brush and start at the
feet and legs and brush towards the heart in smooth strokes. Lotions can also be
the problem for many people as they are filled with chemical preservatives and
mostly draw moisture out of the skin. Try a good natural vegetable oil like
jojoba, grapeseed, avocado, etc.
Knowledge applied is
wisdom…
Nik Notes: Your
skin is not an impenetrable barrier. Just as your skin protects you from larger
contaminants it is susceptible to attack by smaller ones. Chemicals found in
our daily lives can penetrate your outer defenses and compromise your health.
Anything that comes into contact with your skin can be found in your blood
within a minute. Protect yourself by wearing protective garments while handling
dangerous substances and protect yourself from hidden poisons. While there is
no way to totally protect yourself from all environmental hazards, you can
control how you counteract them. Read my friends articles to find out how.
