Ninety percent of disease in animals has to do with a poor diet.  Once your dog or cat is receiving the proper nutrition, you will see a difference, even if you thought you already had a healthy animal.

Words from us

Wayne’s World
This month we talk about pet health, an especially important topic for us pet lovers & animal lovers in general. Our Stay Healthy! staff member to rely on is Gwen. Stop in & talk with her about your pet questions or call her at 877-2494. Here are some pet facts you can use. Dogs chew when isolated, bored, anxious, or under stress. Stay Healthy! carries healthy dog chews for their teeth. You should not feed your dog chocolate. Chocolate contains theobromine, which is a poison to both dogs and cats. You should not give a cat glucosamine. Stay Healthy! has a pet section with numerous  products, including homeopathy for animals & an array of fine quality items for external as well as internal maintenance. Again, Gwen is your contact person in this growing area of our store. On a personal note, my dog Skeeter is a terrier mix around twenty pounds. Most interesting is her age, fourteen, which she is most certainly unaware of. She is fit, active, & as playful a dog as those half her age. Skeeter eats “Country Pet” & “Pet Guard” products. She consumes wet food with “Barley Dog” green powder & enzymes sprinkled on top. She gets at least two tablespoons of flax oil or “Udo’s Oil” per day. We also put three “Hydroxygen Plus” drops in her filtered water. Skeeter is also immensely loved & returns it! She is a real blessing & fun to come home to. Make sure your dog or cat is wearing a collar with an identification tag & walk your dog on a leash. Be an aware, responsible pet owner & love them. What a great return we get when we do.
Thank you so much for your patronage. Stay Healthy!

Gwen's Pet Tips:

Animals need fresh foods, just like we do. Almost all pet food is cooked, canned , pasteurized or put in the microwave, destroying the enzymes.  When you add greens and vegetables to your pets’ diet, you are adding vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll. The best foods are cooked by you (not  table scraps), turkey, chicken, lamb, fish and brown rice are some good choices. If you cannot do this, a chemical free pet food is your next choice. Remember, change diet gradually 1/3 new food to begin with. Feed twice a day for better assimilation and better weight control.  Animals become dehydrated very quickly, so provide plenty of pure fresh water.  A second bowl of water with a few drops of chlorophyll can be offered, your pet will choose which one they need. They are so smart!  Fresh fruits can also be given.  Some good choices are bananas, apples and melons. Give these separately from other foods, for they are more easily digested.  Puppies and kittens need twice the nutrients and calories, while pregnant and nursing females need more protein, vitamins and minerals.  Older animals need very digestible foods, less fat, vitamins, minerals, sodium and proteins. When the weather is hot try giving more vegetables and less grains. Some good supplement choices are “Flora Pet Essentials”, aloe gel, flax oil, lecithin, brewers yeast, bran, greens, bone meal, vitamins, and “Mezotrace” minerals for pets.  Remember, keep on hand some homeopathic remedies for safe healing. Things to beware of in pet food: red dye #40, sodium nitrite, BHA, BHT, MSG, sodium metabisulfite, artificial flavorings, propylene glycol, ethoxyguim, salt and sugar. Your animals need you to choose for them, so choose wisely! Happy health to you.

Pet health is not just supplementation, like us, it is lifestyle.  Exercise is essential for good pet health.  Your animals exercise or lack of it is dependent on you. Make sure that if they’re confined anywhere, they have the opportunity to run, gallop, or fly daily.  Diet is especially important. Basically, the type of diet that is good for you is good for your pet.  The least processed, without tons of fat, carbohydrates, preservatives & hormones is the best choice when choosing marketed pet food. Good pet health isn’t complete without mental stimulation. Every creature needs mental stimulation;  even pets get bored & lonely.  Pro-active stimulation can avoid behavioral problems.  Good pet health is mental as well as physical.  Good rest is essential.  Most animals get plenty of rest, but like us, they need comfort.  For instance, dogs need support in their beds like we do, with firm cushioning.  Too much noise, reprimanding, confusion, jealousy, or fears of being left behind are all stressful for pets. Overeating  & fat retention can be brought on by stress in animals as well as humans, thus healing is made more difficult in the face of stress. Pollution & toxins are elements that hinder good pet health. Like us, smoke, exhaust fumes, even pollens are considered toxic to pets. Confined animals have no way of escaping toxins, so that’s why fresh air is important.  Detoxifying is possible for animals as well as humans.  For pet supplements or more information stop by Stay Healthy!

J.C. Speaking Words of Wisdom
Pets have magical powers when it comes to healing. Their calm energy and happy demeanor can invoke powerful emotions, and these emotions can be very healing. Talking to your pet can be very comforting in times of need, when there is no one else to listen. Pets can sense our feelings and changes in the earth too, and they can warn us of earth quakes and keep us from danger. There are actually healing centers based on the amazing powers of pets. Horses can help mentally ill patients feel special and give them a sense of peace. Dogs have high energy which is very contagious. Just being next to a dog or having a dog lick your hand is very healing for elderly people. For the health of your pet, be careful with the supplement dosages, and remember no matter what you hear, pets are different from humans and therefore need a different diet. Yes, you can add whole foods into your pets diet, but specific pets like cats need extra protein and should not take glucosamine. Look into the products you’re giving your pets and take special note on body size and weight. Do not overdose your pets thinking more is better. “Udo’s” pet products are my favorite when it comes to maintaining optimal health. “Bach Flower” remedies are great to handle emotional and psychological problems like domineering, jealousy and territorial behaviors. Herbs like Siberian ginseng (eleuthero), alfalfa, and barley grass are very safe for pet immunity and energy. Playing with your pet can be very rewarding, so remember they need attention and affection to be happy and healthy.
