Many women wait too long to take their bone-building supplements, but osteoporosis affects men also. Recent statistics reveal 30 million people afflicted with this disease in the USA , and over 80 percent of those are women. One in four women has osteoporosis, and one in eight men. Hip, spine, and wrist fractions are a very dangerous and painful result. You do not want this bone loss because the results can be disability and perhaps death from fractures. Bone loss occurs silently and often symptoms are not noted until a fracture happens. The warning signs include back pain around the bottom of the shoulder blades. Teeth may become loose, there is a loss of height and rounding of the upper back (Dowager’s hump). Calcium loss is not the only cause. Our immune systems, hormones, stress, and nutrition combine to maintain proper bone health. Read and follow the recommendations in the “The Osteoporosis Solution”. Solgar has the exact bone formulation suggested in this book, and Stay Healthy! carries not only this formulation, but many fine others by great supplement manufacturers, containing the majority of the nutrients mentioned (multivitamin, calcium, vitamins D& K, magnesium, boron, quercetin, turmeric, Omega-3 fatty acids, silicon, ipriflavone, and strontium). Reduce caffeine and simple sugars, eat green leafy vegetables, eliminate all soft drinks, reduce salt, maintain adequate protein, exercise, eat calcium-rich foods, take supplements, eat “good fats”, watch medications (particularly thyroid disease), quit smoking, get some sunshine, avoid antacids, and inquire of our staff at
Stay Healthy! for additional information on nutritional needs. We have now been serving the Las Vegas community for 21 years, and we sincerely appreciate your patronage and trust in us. Thank you for the privilege. Stay Healthy!

Jenny's Jive:    Bones play many roles in the body. They provide structure, protect organs, anchor muscles, and store calcium. Adequate calcium consumption and weight bearing physical activity build strong bones, optimizes bone mass, and may reduce the risk of osteoporosis later in life. Peak bone mass refers to the genetic potential for bone density. A large decline in bone mass occurs in older adults, increasing the risk of osteoporosis. For women this occurs around the time of menopause. Calcium is a mineral needed by the body for healthy bones, teeth, and proper function of the heart, muscles, and nerves. The body cannot produce calcium; therefore, it must be absorbed through food. Some foods that are high in calcium are cheese, yogurt, broccoli, & almonds. Regular physical activity has been associated with many positive health benefits including strong bones. Like proper calcium consumption, adequate weight-bearing physical activity early in life is important in reaching peak bone mass. Weight-bearing physical activities cause muscles and bones to work against gravity. Some examples of weight bearing physical activities include walking, jogging, stair climbing, jumping rope, & dancing, thus concluding that through diet & exercise, yet another health issue can be prevented.

Jeff's Positive Vibrations:  Advertisers and marketers in this country on television, radio and other forms of media always stress the need for calcium for strong bones, teeth, muscles and to reduce the risk of getting osteoporosis. This is true, to a point. Americans ingest the most dairy products in the world. On the other hand, America has the highest rate of osteoporosis in the world. What’s wrong with that picture? Well it sounds like calcium is not the problem, but getting calcium to be absorbed is. Calcium needs magnesium, phosphorus, boron, silica, zinc, vitamin D, copper, and other vitamins and trace minerals for optimum bone health. Easy to digest liquid calcium such as calcium lactate, calcium gluconate, and calcium citrate are organic forms that are highly absorbable and a good choice. Also supplementation with more magnesium is so important because the lack of magnesium is a direct cause for calcium not to be absorbed into our bone structure. Instead the extra calcium gets deposited into our soft tissue causing problems like kidney stones, gall stones, calcium plaque in our arteries and also rheumatoid arthritis. We have a good assortment of supplements and herbs that can prove to be very effective. You can
find them at Stay Healthy! where our knowledgeable staff will be more than happy to help you achieve excellent bone health.

J.C. Speaking Words of Wisdom
Osteoporosis is a disease that robs the bones of their density & strength, making them thinner and more prone to break. Over 30 million Americans suffer from osteoporosis today. Women are especially prone to this disease, affecting up to 35 to 50% of women. Men can also be affected by osteoporosis at a later stage in life and with less ferocity. Lifestyle & Exercise: Get plenty of early morning sunshine on the body everyday possible for natural Vitamin D. Exercise is a nutrient in itself. Weight bearing exercises like walking, hiking, Tai Chi Chuan, etc. is a great way to build bones and prevent bone loss. Resistance exercises like weight training, water workouts and elastic bands can take that a step further. Avoid florescent lighting, electric blankets, aluminum cookware, and fluoridated water, for all leach calcium from the body. Diet & Superfoods: Eat more Vitamin C rich foods like oranges, cherries, peppers, etc. Add sea greens like dulse and kelp for added minerals. Eat more calcium-magnesium-potassium rich foods like broccoli, wild fish, carrots, dried fruits, leafy greens (spinach, collard greens etc.). Avoid sugar & high salt foods, alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, for they interfere with calcium absorption.
Supplements & Herbs: Not all calcium’s are created equal. Food-state calcium is one of the best. Calcium lactate and calcium gluconate are also very good organic soluble forms of calcium. Herbs to take special note of for their bone building effects are comfrey, oatstraw, burdock, and dandelion, to name just a few. Green plants like wheat grass, barley grass, alfalfa, etc. are nature’s nutrient power houses.
Look for EARTH HEALING FORMULAS’  “5GREENEST” to give you a very comprehensive natural multi-vitamin-mineral-enzyme. Greens supply calcium, magnesium and many other important trace minerals that also play a vital role in bone health.

Nik Notes:  According to U.S. Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona, “50 percent of all American citizens older than 50 will be at risk for fractures from osteoporosis and low bone mass if no immediate action is taken by individuals at risk.  Additionally, 10 million Americans over the age of 50 have osteoporosis, the most common bone disease, while another 34 million are at risk for developing osteoporosis.  Each year, roughly 1.5 million people suffer a bone fracture related to osteoporosis.  Osteoporosis and other bone diseases, such as Paget's disease and osteogenesis imperfecta can lead to a downward spiral in physical health and quality of life, including losing the ability to walk, stand up, or dress, and can lead to premature death.”   All of these situations are avoidable, so take a great bone density formula and add weight bearing exercise to strengthen those bones!
